Vintage tractor run raises more than £5,000 for Harrogate cancer centre

The Brian Chester Road Run began in 2022.

The fifth Brian Chester tractor road run has raised a further £635 for Sir Robert Ogden MacMillan Centre at Harrogate Hospital.

The event, which took place through Ripon and surrounding villages, has now raised more than £5,000 for the charity.

Organised by the West Yorkshire group of the National Vintage Tractor and Engine Club (NVTEC), the tractor run is held in memory of local farmer and founding member of Tractor Fest, Brian Chester.

On a cold and wet morning, 29 vintage tractors took part in the road run in a preview of Tractor Fest which is being held at Newby Hall in June.

Mark Nicholson, chair of West Yorkshire NVTEC, said:

“The tractor run is a great way to share our enthusiasm with the local community and to remember our friend Brian Chester who did so much to promote tractors.

"We are very grateful to the everyone for encouraging us enroute on a chilly and outcast day and helping us to support the Sir Robert Ogden MacMillan Centre.”

The road run was supported by F Tate & Sons, Larkhill Nurseries in Ripon who hosted both the tractors and visitors.

Tractor Fest takes place at award-winning country house and gardens Newby Hall on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th June.

Occupying 120 acres, Tractor Fest attracts more than 15,000 visitors annually and features more than 1,400 vintage and modern tractors, and another 2,200 exhibits including stationary engines, commercial vehicles, cars, trucks and motorcycles.

Among this year’s highlights will be special features on tractors, engines and machines manufactured in Scotland, motor rollers and the Zetor tractor brand.
