A pair of charitable 9-year-old twins have set themselves a festive challenge to spread Christmas kindness whilst supporting Saint Michael's Hospice.
York brothers George and Stanley are carrying out a series of kind acts in the run-up to Christmas, including fundraising and volunteering through 12 acts of kindness.
Throughout December, the twins are visiting care homes as well as supporting local charities and community groups.
George and Stanley said the idea came after watching a television programme about volunteers working in a charity shop, which prompted a family discussion about helping others during the festive season.
Stanley said the project had become one of the most enjoyable parts of his Christmas, while George said seeing people’s reactions made the effort worthwhile.
He said:
“We were watching television with Mum about volunteers and thought it would be good to do something like that ourselves.
“We wanted to spread kindness at Christmas and help people who aren’t as lucky as us.”
Their mother, Sophie Agar, said the family worked together to come up with ideas that were suitable for their age.
She said the boys had already delivered gifts to a care home, collected food donations and bought toys to give to charity:
“It’s about finding things they can realistically do. I’m incredibly proud of them.”
As part of the initiative, the twins have also been making Christmas decorations, writing cards and raising money through small fundraising efforts, including donations via JustGiving.
George said one of his favourite moments had been handing out presents at a care home and seeing residents’ reactions.
Stanley added that even small gestures could make a difference.
“Any bit of kindness helps. Even just one person getting something at Christmas.”
The brothers said they hoped their efforts might encourage others to take part in simple acts of kindness over the festive period.
