Children in the local community are being invited to take part in a range of Halloween-themed activities at Specsavers Ripon this half term.
The store on Market Place West is one of the sponsors of this year’s Pumpkin Patch which is hosted by Ripon BID will take place on 30th and 31st October, transforming Ripon’s historic Market Square into a festive display.
Since Saturday 25th October, children have also been joining in the Pumpkin Trail, an activity that leads them to the patch where they can pick their own pumpkin to carve and decorate in time for Halloween.
Families can collect a trail sheet from Specsavers Ripon or any participating store to take part.
The trail offers a fun way for children to explore the local area while searching for hidden pumpkins along the route.
On 30th and 31st October, children are encouraged to attend their appointments at Specsavers Ripon in costume for a chance to win a family ticket to the Ripon Community Bonfire and Fireworks Display on 7th November.
The winner will also have the opportunity to help light the bonfire on the night.
Annette Duffy, retail director at Specsavers Ripon, said,
“We’re truly thrilled to celebrate the Halloween season and be part of some fantastic events.
"It’s such a pleasure to offer the community a variety of activities throughout the half term that excite everyone and bring us all together.
"We're looking forward to welcoming children in their costumes and seeing all the different characters – what a perfect opportunity for them to take a memorable photo at the pumpkin patch!”
In addition to the Halloween celebrations, the store is currently hosting the Poppy Dress, a handmade creation crafted from woollen poppies with a 12ft train.
The dress, the result of more than 1,000 hours of work by the Ripon Community Poppy Project, will be displayed in the store’s window before being worn by soprano singer Charlotte Potter at Ripon Cathedral’s Remembrance concert on 6 November.
It will then return to the store for a further week of display.
Annette added,
“Our whole team is incredibly honoured to showcase the exquisite Poppy Dress, a beautiful, handcrafted piece created with over 1,000 hours of dedication by the talented volunteers at the Ripon Community Poppy Project.
"Be sure to stop by our window and marvel at their exceptional craftsmanship – it’s a sight to behold.”
