An opticians in Ripon is preparing to bring joy to those in need this Christmas by acting as a collection point for Ripon Community House.
Specsavers on Market Place, which is locally owned and run, is encouraging donations of non-perishable foods to brighten someone's winter, whether by decluttering cupboards or picking up additional items during a shopping trip.
Those wanting to get involved and give back are asked to drop off a selection of nutritionally balanced, long-life and cupboard essentials such as dried goods, long-life milk, tinned fruit, vegetables and meals, as well as toiletries and sanitary products.
From there, volunteers at Ripon Community House will collect and package the donations before Christmas to provide community members, to ensure they feel supported and cared for this winter.
Katherine Friis, optometrist director at Specsavers Ripon, said:
“Everyone in-store is excited to get involved with the food drive in the lead up to Christmas because we all understand the importance food holds in our everyday life - especially during the festive period.
“Unfortunately, not everyone can afford a Christmas they deserve, or celebrate as they might have done previously, because of rising costs and other concerns.
“We’re genuinely committed to supporting our community and ensuring everyone has access to healthy, nutritious food this winter."
She added:
“Of course, a few indulgences - like the sweet treats we all enjoy during this festive season - are welcome, as they can truly bring joy to those receiving donations and make them feel special at Christmas.
“We’re excited to see many familiar faces dropping off their contributions and look forward to welcoming even more people who wish to get involved in the build-up to Christmas.”
