A new specialist day service supporting young people and adults with complex needs has opened in a dedicated building at Rossett School in Harrogate.
Oscar's Pathway, which is run by local charity The Sibling Group, provides sensory-led support for people with complex sensory needs.
The service operates from Monday to Saturday, offering full-time support for adults during the week as well as sessions for young people with SEND on Saturdays and during school holidays.
The service has relocated to its own purpose-built facility, separate from the main school site.
The building includes a large activity room, a fully equipped sensory room, a gym and movement space, a sensory garden, outdoor areas and a life skills suite designed to help people build confidence in everyday situations such as visiting a doctor's surgery, dentist or shop.
Oscar's Pathway is led by a qualified SEND teacher and sensory inclusion facilitator, with a focus on helping individuals develop communication, engagement and independence through personalised sensory-based support.
The service was established by Grace, CEO of The Sibling Group, whose younger brother Oscar has autism, a learning disability and complex needs.
Drawing on her family's experiences, Grace created the service after identifying a lack of suitable long-term support for people with complex needs. Oscar is among those who will attend the day service.
The Sibling Group was originally founded to support children who have a disabled brother or sister, with Oscar's Pathway now forming part of the charity's wider work supporting families across the Harrogate district.
