Yorkshire Agricultural Society has appointed businessman Paul Russell as its new Chair, succeeding Rob Copley after five years in the role.
Paul, CEO of Malton-based Russells, will work alongside CEO Allister Nixon to advance the Society’s mission of supporting and promoting agriculture across Northern England.
Paul brings over 20 years of experience with the Society, having served on multiple committees and as a long-standing Council member.
He follows in the footsteps of his father, John, continuing a family legacy of involvement.
Paul expressed his commitment to maintaining the excellence of the Great Yorkshire Show and the Society’s year-round work supporting farming.
Paul said,
“It’s a huge honour, first and foremost, but also, equally, a big responsibility.
"I am a passionate supporter of all that the Society does and I’m keen that we keep maintaining a great Show."
Russells, a leading supplier of farm machinery and equipment with 12 branches across the region, has grown significantly under Paul’s leadership.
The company also supports the Society’s educational initiatives aimed at inspiring the next generation in agriculture.
Outgoing Chair Rob Copley praised the Society’s achievements during his tenure, including successfully holding the Great Yorkshire Show amid COVID restrictions and welcoming new leadership.
CEO Allister Nixon welcomed Paul’s appointment, highlighting the Society’s recent investments and ongoing commitment to British farming.
The Great Yorkshire Show, held from July 8th to 11th, will showcase the best of agriculture, food, and countryside, drawing thousands of visitors to the upgraded Showground. Tickets can be bought here.
