A Harrogate home care client was left with tears of joy after her care worker arranged a surprise visit from a real-life owl.
Mrs C, who is supported by Radfield Home Care Harrogate, Wetherby and North Yorkshire, has a longstanding love of owls, with pictures and ornaments displayed throughout her home.
After getting to know Mrs C and discovering how much the birds meant to her, Care Professional Sian decided to organise a special experience.

With the help of Amanda from Harrogate Bird of Prey and Creature Cave, Luna the owl was brought to Mrs C’s home for a surprise visit.
The experience allowed Mrs C to meet Luna up close and prompted smiles and tears of joy.
Sian said:
“Mrs C absolutely loves owls. She has pictures and ornaments of them all around her home, so it’s something you quickly notice when you spend time with her.
“I thought how lovely it would be if we could somehow arrange for her to actually meet one. Amanda was kind enough to make that happen and seeing Mrs C’s reaction when Luna arrived was just wonderful.
“There were smiles and happy tears all round. It was such a special moment and one I think we’ll all remember for a long time.”
Liz, Field Care Supervisor at Radfield Home Care, was also there for the visit and said it demonstrated the relationships that can develop between care professionals and the people they support.
She said:
“Sian had taken the time to really get to know Mrs C and recognise something that would mean a lot to her. That’s such an important part of good home care.
“It isn’t only about the practical support someone needs. We want people to continue enjoying the things they love and to have moments and experiences that bring genuine happiness.”
Photographs from the visit were printed for Mrs C to keep and share with her family.
The Radfield team also thanked Amanda and Harrogate Bird of Prey and Creature Cave for helping to make the surprise possible.
