New Knaresborough startup aiming to cut cardboard waste across Yorkshire

William Shippam, Managing Director, and colleague George.

A new Knaresborough-based business has launched with plans to reduce cardboard waste by giving used packaging a second life.

ReBoxt says it will collect and resell reusable cardboard boxes that would otherwise be thrown away after a single use.

The company supplies graded reused boxes for moving, storage, e-commerce and general packaging, offering an alternative to buying new cardboard packaging.

Founder William Shippam said the idea came from seeing large amounts of usable cardboard being discarded by businesses across the region.

He said:

“There’s an enormous amount of packaging that gets used once and then discarded despite still being in excellent condition, simply because it is the wrong size or shape.

“We wanted to create a practical solution that helps local businesses reduce waste, lower their environmental impact and save money — all at the same time.

“Sustainability doesn’t always need to mean expensive changes. Sometimes it can be as simple as reusing materials that already exist and being smarter with your resources.”

The business says it plans to work with companies across North Yorkshire and beyond to divert reusable cardboard away from waste streams and extend the lifespan of packaging materials.

Boxes are sorted and graded based on their condition and size before being prepared for resale and redistribution.

According to the company, reused packaging could also help reduce demand for new cardboard production and lower costs for independent retailers, online sellers and other growing businesses.

ReBoxt says it has already supported several local and charitable initiatives through packaging donations, including the Sleep Out to Help Out campaign, Ukraine humanitarian aid supplies and costume projects linked to the Knaresborough Bed Race.
