Harrogate BID has announced funding for a new app to support the Pubwatch scheme in the town centre, along with a fresh accreditation for venues.
Officially announced during a meeting yesterday (Thursday), the BID team and Pubwatch scheme have launched a partnership with the Alert app by ShopSafe.
Following extensive research and development, both the BID team and Pubwatch said they are confident that the Alert app will help to revitalise the scheme.
It plans to connect venues using modern, state-of-the-art technology leading to more proactive, efficient results against offenders.
Details of the Best Bar None scheme in Harrogate were also revealed during the meeting last week.
The accreditation, which is currently in place in many different locations across the country, helps customers to identify well-run night-time economy venues including pubs, bars, restaurants and more.
It’s assessed on themes including venue management, staff training and care, customer safety and welfare and customer service and community.
Matthew Chapman, Harrogate BID Chief Executive, said:
“We’re thrilled to be working alongside the Pubwatch scheme in our town to continue to improve the initiative for its members.
“We’re very confident that the new technology used by the Alert app will help to streamline the process of reporting incidents and identifying any banned persons – which in turn will lead to a safer, even more enjoyable and inclusive night-time economy.
“The Best Bar None project will also help potential customers to recognise the high quality venues in our town centre, which will hopefully result in increased footfall and spend into our hospitality sector.”
Meanwhile, Alan Huddart, Chair of the Pubwatch scheme in Harrogate, said these are exciting times for the scheme in the town.
Alan said:
“We continue to work alongside Harrogate BID to ensure Harrogate’s vibrant night time economy is safe, appealing and fun for everyone.
“Firstly, we are pleased to support the Best Bar None initiative which will underpin Harrogate as a stand-out destination for both locals and visitors by formalising its credentials as a fantastic town in which to socialise.
“Secondly, we are pleased to launch the new BID-funded app which will streamline the management of the Pubwatch scheme allowing us to connect with colleagues to tackle challenges including anti-social behaviour, aggression and violence as well as drug and alcohol abuse.”
Over the last year, the Business Improvement District (BID) team has supported the Pubwatch scheme with behind the scenes operations, helping with any incident reports and banning orders, as well as providing funding for usage of the previous app.
The BID fully supports the initiative, which helps to ensure those that attend venues in the North Yorkshire town can do so safely and enjoyably.
