Knaresborough teenager Eddie “The Hammer” Large struck gold this weekend after winning the Under 80kg title at the England Boxing National Youth Championships in Rotherham.
The 17-year-old, from Scotton, was representing H HOUR Boxing Gym in Harrogate and produced a controlled and confident performance in the Youth Final, earning a clear points decision.
The victory marks a step up from last year, when he finished with a national bronze medal.
For his family, the national title has been a proud moment.
Keith and Emma, Eddie's parents, said:
"We’ve watched the hard work go in every single week. To see it pay off like this is special, but Eddie’s already focused on the next challenge."
Competing at a higher weight marked a change from last season for Eddie, who fought at Under 80kg in the final.

The result reflected progress made over the past year, during which he has continued to train regularly while managing the demands of youth competition.
Preparation has included early-morning roadwork, strength and conditioning sessions and technical training at H HOUR Boxing Gym in Harrogate.
He is coached by Mateusz Daroszewski, Dan Flack, Matty Cullen and Ben Harriss, with the gym focusing on structured training and development for young boxers across the region.
Attention now turns to his next contest. Eddie is scheduled to box in Leeds next weekend, where he will challenge for the Yorkshire Under 80kg title.
In March, he is due to compete internationally at the Porto Box Cup in Portugal, a multi-nation youth tournament featuring boxers from several European countries.
