King James's School launches appeal to fund mental health support

King James's School in Knaresborough.

King James's School in Knaresborough is calling on local businesses to help fund specialist mental health support for students.

The school hopes to secure a partnership with a company willing to invest £15,000 per year for three years.

The funding would enable King James’s to employ a dedicated mental health professional two days each week, providing early intervention, one-to-one guidance, and a safe space for students to talk.

A spokesperson for the school said that more young people than ever across the school community are struggling with anxiety, stress, and emotional wellbeing challenges.

They said:

“As educators, we see the impact this has on their learning, relationships, and confidence every day.

“While our staff already provide care and pastoral support, the scale and complexity of need continues to grow.”

The school’s campaign highlights that this is intended to be more than sponsorship — it is presented as a long-term partnership with lasting social impact.

The initiative aims to help young people overcome barriers, build resilience and reach their potential by increasing access to professional mental health support within the school.

A spokesperson added:

“Your support could make all the difference. Whether through promotion or increased visibility, your involvement could be crucial in helping us spread the word.

“Any assistance in helping us raise awareness or connect with a potential partner would be vitally important in giving this initiative the attention it deserves.”

Businesses interested in learning more about the initiative are encouraged to contact Cathryn Sutherland on sutherland@king-james.co.uk
