'It's not over' - Town boss defiant after huge win in relegation battle

Harrogate Town boss Simon Weaver after his side's 1-0 win over Colchester United.

Harrogate Town boss Simon Weaver declared "it's not over" after his side's last-gasp 1-0 win over Colchester United on Saturday.

Town secured all three points at Exercise Stadium after a 99th minute winner from Jacob Slater.

The victory, combined with favourable results elsewhere, has closed the gap at the bottom of League Two, leaving Harrogate within touching distance of safety heading into the final two matches of the season.

And after a difficult defeat to Newport County last week, Manager Simon Weaver praised his players for their bouncing back under pressure.

He said:

“I’m buzzing for the players - I think they deserved it.

“It was a difficult afternoon last week and the long journey home was almost in silence on the bus, everyone felt the devastation.

“But some results went our way today and we’re very much back in this fight now.”

The win leaves Town on 36 points - level with Barrow and within one point of Newport County and Tranmere Rovers.

Simo maintained his side are not yet where they need to be, but believes momentum and belief have returned at a critical time.

He added:

“People will be looking over their shoulder. We’re not where we want to be or need to be, but with two games remaining and a point in it, we’re back in the fight and we plan on fighting right to the death.”

Harrogate now face a decisive end to the season, knowing further positive results could yet secure their place in the English Football League.
