Harrogate woman raises £7,000 for hospice that cared for her dad A Harrogate woman has raised just under £7,000 for St Michael's Hospice as part of a year of fundraising in memory of her dad. The hospice cared for Lorraine Bradley's dad Roger in his final days after he was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND). Roger passed away in July last year, sparking Lorraine's year of fundraising events in his memory. From February, she has taken part in various charity events such as the Rob Burrow 10k, Muddy Boots Harrogate and even hosted her own 'Quiz, Pie and Peas' night to fundraise for St Michael's. And her current fundraising total stands at £6,912 - almost 14 times her original target of £500. She said:
"My dad was a very active man, walking 8 miles most days and had everything to live for, but this was taken away from us way too fast."[caption id="attachment_79614" align="aligncenter" width="1024"] Lorraine has been fundraising for St Michael's Hospice since February.[/caption] Roger was diagnosed with MND in March last year. Lorraine added:
"As a family we sadly had to watch the deterioration of a once strong, healthy and fit man. "My dad spent a few weeks in Saint Michael's Hospice and really enjoyed his stay. "He was very well looked after by the nurses, doctors and the care support workers, so I would like to give back for the help and support they have showed our family at our hardest time."Lorraine will continue her fundraising campaign until February 2024 with more sponsored races and events. Lorraine is holding a bingo games night on Saturday (30th September) at Park Place Social Club in Knaresborough from 7pm. To contribute to her campaign, find Lorraine's JustGiving page here. Saint Michael's Hospice Saint Michael’s MND unit is the local hospice care charity ensuring people affected by terminal illness across the Harrogate district can access high quality, personalised care. They do this by offering a range of services from their Hornbeam Park-based hospice, and out in the community in people’s own homes, as well as reaching out regionally and nationally.
