Harrogate Town sign Torquay defender Sam Dreyer

Harrogate Town have signed Torquay United centre-back Sam Dreyer for an undisclosed fee.

The 22-year-old joins after making more than 80 appearances for the Gulls and being named the club’s Young Player of the Year last season.

Dreyer said:

“I’m really happy to be here, there’s a really good vibe about the place and the project seems really good so I’m excited to get going.

“I’m a centre half that can do both sides of the game, can play but can also head, tackle and put my body on the line to stop goals.

“I want to play as many games as possible here, play as well as possible and hopefully it’ll be a successful season for us.”

Dreyer began his career at Stevenage and went on to represent Biggleswade, Hendon and Bedford before joining Peterborough United in 2023.

A loan spell with Hampton and Richmond Borough caught the attention of Torquay, who signed him ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

He was named in the National League South Team of the Season following his first campaign with the club and was later appointed vice-captain.

Dreyer will wear the number 16 shirt for Harrogate Town.

He could make his debut during this weekend’s trip to Scunthorpe, subject to approval from the Football Association and National League.
