St. Joseph's Primary School in Harrogate is celebrating a 'good' rating following its recent Ofsted inspection.
The school welcomed Ofsted inspectors for a visit on 29th and 30th April.
And the school has been rated ‘good’ in all five categories: quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, leadership and management, and early years provision.
The inspectors commended the school for having “taken effective action to maintain the standards identified at the previous inspection.”
In their report, Ofsted described St. Joseph’s as “a warm and nurturing school where pupils thrive.”
Inspectors praised the school’s ability to help children achieve their best:
“They achieve highly and by the time they leave the school are well prepared for the next stage of their education.”
The report also noted that “pupils leave St. Joseph’s as well-rounded, caring individuals, confident and ready to embrace their future.”
One of the school’s key strengths, according to inspectors, is pupil behaviour:
“Pupils’ behaviour is a strength of the school. Learning takes place without interruption and classrooms are an oasis of calm.”
Ofsted also highlighted how well the curriculum supports pupils’ learning, noting that “new learning builds carefully on what pupils have been taught before":
"The impact of this is shown in pupils’ positive attitudes to their learning and their strong achievement by the end of key stage 2.”
Furthermore, the school’s personal, social, and health education (PSHE) curriculum was praised for ensuring “pupils are well prepared for life beyond school.
A focus on reading in the school ensures that its pupils have a firm foundation for future learning, the report states: “Staff inspire children with stories”.
The children describe books as ‘taking you to places you can’t go in real life’.
Headteacher Gillian Delahay said:
“We are delighted that the inspection recognised the hard work, care, and dedication of our staff, the unwavering support from our families and the wonderful attitude of our pupils.”
