North Yorkshire Police is recruiting for new Detention Officers to work at custody suites in Harrogate, York and Scarborough.
The 12-hour shift pattern consists of two day shifts (7am to 7pm) and two night shifts (7pm to 7am), followed by 4 rest days.
Key responsibilities include booking-in detainees, drug testing, taking DNA and other samples, searches and taking photographs and fingerprints.
Custody officers are tasked with “ensuring the safety, security and hygiene” of the custody environment.
They also “monitor and maintain” the welfare of the detainees and provide support to the Custody Sergeant.
A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said:
“This is a unique opportunity to work within the heart of operational policing, assisting police officers and members of the public on a daily basis.
“As a Detention Officer you will carry out a wide range of duties to ensure the safety, security and hygiene of the custody environment.
“You will also monitor and maintain the welfare of the detainees and provide support to the Custody Sergeant.
The salary ranges from £24,222 - £28,653, plus weekend working and shift allowance.
