Harrogate and Knaresborough MP Tom Gordon has submitted a motion to Parliament to recognise the importance and impact of Harrogate Theatre on the local community.
Mr Gordon said he “very much enjoyed” his visit and tour of the theatre last year.
The Theatre puts on many highlights in Harrogate’s calendar, particularly with their pantomime, bringing people in from across the area, and playing an important part in Harrogate’s local economy.
This year, the theatre is celebrating its 125th anniversary.
Alongside all the live events that the theatre puts on, including theatre, comedy, music and dance events, it also hosts touring productions, host community companies, supports emerging artists through its Artist Development Hub and runs its own youth theatre.
Tom Gordon MP said:
“I am so proud to represent our amazing part of Yorkshire. Our area offers so much from the arts and culture, and Harrogate Theatre is one of the oldest and most shining examples.
“During the general election campaign, I said I would fight to be our local champion in Parliament and to restore pride in our towns and communities, and that starts with talking about our fantastic local success stories.
“Harrogate Theatre does so much for the community, both in providing entertainment, but also through their support for emerging artists and young people through their programmes.
“I particularly enjoyed the production of Priscilla I watched there, and I very much hope to get back there soon for another event."
He added:
“As Harrogate and Knaresborough’s MP I want to make sure that I use every opportunity, both in and outside of Parliament, to bang the drum for our fantastic communities and what makes them special.”
