Harrogate man and colleagues tackle Three Peaks in memory of his mum

A Harrogate man is taking on the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge in memory of his mum after she sadly lost her battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis last year.

Stuart Blackwood and a team of colleagues from Converta will complete the gruelling challenge tomorrow (Friday 22nd May) to raise money and awareness for Action for Pulmonary Fibrosis (APF).

The group has already raised more than £1,500 through JustGiving, with office staff also organising a bake sale and step challenge to boost donations ahead of the walk.

It's all to raise money in memory of Stuart's mum, Angela.

He said:

“My Mum battled with Pulmonary Fibrosis until we sadly lost her in November 2024.

"This is a charity that is very close to my heart and I couldn't think of a better way to raise money and awareness than taking on the Yorkshire 3 Peaks.”

Explaining his motivation, he added:

“I decided that the only way that I could let the fizz out and do my mother proud was to bring awareness of Pulmonary Fibrosis and see if we could make a difference to people and family that struggle with this horrible disease.”

Ten people are taking part in the challenge, with Stuart praising the support from colleagues at Converta.

He said:

“The support I have received is incredible and I feel truly blessed.

“Help us make a difference to the lives of others and their families who suffer with the effects and journey of Pulmonary Fibrosis.”

Action for Pulmonary Fibrosis is a charity made up of patients, families, researchers and healthcare professionals working to improve the lives of people affected by pulmonary fibrosis.

The organisation provides support for patients and families, raises awareness through fundraising and education, and funds research aimed at improving treatment and finding a cure for the disease.
