A Harrogate charity that supports children with a disabled brother or sister has received a £10,000 cash boost from the Morrisons Foundation.
The cash has been donated to The Sibling Group, a charity that provides activities and support for children aged 5-16 that have a disabled sibling.
Thanks to the funding from the supermarket’s Foundation, The Sibling Group will be able to fully renovate their day centre, called ‘Oscar’s Pathway’.
Opening in July 2026, this new facility will offer a range of stimulating activities such as sensory exploration, art and crafts, cooking and life skills for disabled young people and adults with complex needs.
Marshall Sibanda, Chief Operating Officer at The Sibling Group, said:
“Our service users have very complex needs and we are struggling to find an appropriate space to meet their needs.
“The support from the Morrisons Foundation will allow us to update a building that is currently empty and make it accessible for our service users.”
She added:
“We will create a sensory room, activity room, lunch room, a kitchen, sensory garden and outside space.
“These facilities will provide access to a range of activities such as life skills, cooking, gardening, art, music, drama and physical activities such as yoga, helping to develop their communication and skills.
“The new centre will be an amazing space to come, socialise and work on skills to support their quality of life and independence.”
Kiera McDonnell, Morrisons Community Champion from the Harrogate store presented the donation to the charity.
She said:
“It’s a privilege to support such a great, local charity in our community with such a substantial grant.
“The new day centre will be a haven for young people and adults with complex needs.
“Once complete, the renovated facility will make a huge difference to the charity’s vital work for many years to come.”
David Scott, Morrisons Foundation Trustee said:
“Supporting charities at the heart of our communities is what the Morrisons Foundation is all about and I’m delighted that our donation will help The Sibling Group in such a meaningful way."
The Morrisons Foundation was set up by Morrisons supermarket in 2015 and awards grants for charity projects which help improve people’s lives.
In the past 11 years the Foundation has donated over £47 million, supporting hundreds of charities across England, Scotland and Wales.
