A Harrogate-based charity has joined a major national initiative launched by The Royal Foundation of The Prince and Princess of Wales to transform suicide prevention across the UK.
The Jordan Legacy, founded in memory of Jordan Phillip, has been announced as one of the National Suicide Prevention Network’s innovation partners.
The Network was launched on World Mental Health Day (10th October) and aims to strengthen collaboration, improve access to support and drive innovation in suicide prevention.
Backed by over £1 million in funding from The Royal Foundation over three years, the National Suicide Prevention Network brings together four leading charities representing England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, alongside the Hub of Hope, the UK’s largest mental health support directory.
The Jordan Legacy joins more than a dozen innovation partners delivering new projects to address specific areas of need.
It was founded by Steve Phillip after his son, Jordan, took his own life in 2019.
Steve told Your Harrogate:
"What was really pleasing to hear is that we’ve been in touch with the Royal Foundation since the announcement on World Mental Health Day and they’ve told us this has been one of the biggest responses they’ve ever had to anything the Royal Foundation has launched in the past.
"That really emphasises this topic of suicide prevention is to society in general."
The Network will be chaired by Professor Ann John, an expert in suicide prevention and public health.
Its work will focus on understanding the causes of suicide, ensuring accessible support, and fostering greater collaboration across the UK.
Each of the founding partners will deliver new projects supported by The Royal Foundation.
These include a 24-hour crisis helpline in Northern Ireland, a new mental health hub inside Cardiff’s Principality Stadium, outreach services in the Scottish Highlands, and new community-based crisis centres for men in Northern England.
His Royal Highness, The Prince of Wales said:
“The incredible partners who form this network reach those at risk of, or affected by, suicide with their inspirational work.
"I have had the privilege of meeting all of the founding partners to see firsthand their powerful community-based efforts to offer hope and support to those who need it most.
"Their efforts reaffirm the urgent mission of the National Suicide Prevention Network: to build a bold, unified national response to the heartbreaking—and preventable—tragedy of suicide.”
