Harrogate care team conquers 45km charity walk

A Harrogate care team has completed a 45km charity walk in scorching heat, raising more than £1,300 for two local organisations supporting older people.

Fifteen walkers from Radfield Home Care took part in the challenge, setting off from Radfield’s Harrogate office and finishing at the company’s Guiseley office via the Cow and Calf on Ilkley Moor.

The walk took place during one of the hottest days of the year so far, with temperatures reaching around 26°C.

Funds raised will be shared between Supporting Older People Harrogate and Guiseley Senior Citizens, helping both organisations continue providing activities, events and support for older people in the community.

Representatives from the charities, including Candy and Pete from Guiseley Senior Citizens and Kate from Supporting Older People, joined the team for the walk.

Nathan Evans, Business Development Manager at Radfield Home Care, said:

“It was certainly more of a challenge than we expected. Climbing up Ilkley Moor in 26-degree heat is not something I'd recommend in a hurry.

"However, we're incredibly proud of what the team achieved. More importantly, we've raised a significant amount of money for two charities that make a genuine difference to older people's lives every day.

"Having spent time with both organisations over the past year, I've seen first-hand the impact they have on reducing loneliness, creating friendships and helping people stay connected to their communities."

The event forms part of Radfield Home Care’s ongoing support for community organisations across Harrogate, North Yorkshire and North Leeds.

Nathan added:

“We'd like to thank everyone who donated, shared the fundraiser, supported us along the route and helped make the day possible.

"The community support has been fantastic, and every donation will help these charities continue their valuable work."

Donations can still be made via the team’s GoFundMe page.
