The Harrogate Bus Company is celebrating one year since the order of 41 state-of-the-art, eco-friendly vehicles was completed.
In January 2025, the final set of vehicles from Transdev’s £21 million order of all-electric buses rolled out of the manufacturer’s and into their Harrogate depot.
Together, these stunning single and double-decker buses carried millions of customers nearly 4 million kilometres across Yorkshire, making it one of the biggest years in the company’s 119-year history.
The Harrogate Bus Company now operates 41 vehicles, including luxurious Alexander Dennis Enviro400EV double-decker and modern Mercedes-Benz eCitaro single-decker models.
These battery-electric buses quietly run around our county; collectively saving over 2,000 tonnes of Carbon Dioxide per year, equal to 1,000 average family cars being taken off the road.
Each vehicle includes free Wi-Fi, climate control, USB charging power and the latest accessibility features – such as two wheelchair access zones – as well as digital screens for stop announcements.
The flagship 36 bus also sports reclining seats and extra legroom between seats to make longer journeys more comfortable.
Head of Operations Kel Pizzuti celebrated:
“2025 was an incredibly rewarding year for us here at the Harrogate Bus Company.
“Not only did we continue to provide customers with reliable transport around our historic spa town, but the fleet of electric vehicles – in addition to our nearly fully-electrified network – is now one of the most environmentally friendly in all of Britain.
“We are immensely proud to be operating the most sustainable buses in Yorkshire, and we’re delighted that our achievements have been acknowledged this year.”
In the Summer, Transdev’s £21 million investment in eco-friendly public transport was recognised at the National E-Mobility Awards, held at the British Motor Museum, where we won the 2025 Best Bus Innovation trophy.
Here, the firm's flagship Yorkshire route, The 36, linking Harrogate with Leeds and Ripon, was named as Britain’s Best Zero Emission Transport Innovation.
More honours followed a few months later when the firm won Large Business of the Year at the Harrogate Business Awards’ black-tie event, held at the DoubleTree by Hilton Majestic Hotel.
Following a successful trial in the Summer, Transdev continued their popular SWITCH single tickets, offering a connecting bus journey on one ticket with reduced prices.
And as they look ahead to another year as Harrogate’s primary bus operator, Transdev have introduced some new ticket upgrades – making travelling simpler and better value across our famous district.
