The office of Harrogate and Knaresborough MP Tom Gordon has processed its 20,000th piece of casework.
The milestone has been reached just over two years after Mr Gordon was elected.
His constituency team handles thousands of individual cases each year, representing residents in dealings with government departments, councils, the NHS, landlords, utility companies and other organisations.
The work covers issues including housing, benefits, visas, council tax, environmental concerns and anti-social behaviour.
Chris Howden, Senior Caseworker, said:
“Some cases are sorted out with a single email. Others run for months.”
Recent cases have included securing £22,000 from the Department for Work and Pensions for a constituent’s son and ensuring a widow received her husband’s pension in full.
The team has also helped reunite a mother with her children and secure them a permanent home after they had been living in a caravan without electricity or running water.
Other outcomes include reinstating care hours removed by North Yorkshire Council, securing a child’s preferred school place and helping residents receive driving licences following delays involving the DVLA’s medical team.
Mr Gordon said:
“Twenty thousand cases mean twenty thousand times somebody in Harrogate or Knaresborough needed a person in their corner.
“Some of it changes lives, like keeping a family in their home. Some of it is a smaller thing that nobody else would have picked up.
“We treat all of it as important, because to the person sitting in front of us it is. I am proud of my team for getting here so quickly, and we are not slowing down.”
Mr Howden added:
“Behind every one of these 20,000 cases is a constituent who turned to us for help.
“We are a small team, but we are proud of how many people we have been able to support, and we will keep working every day to make a real difference for local residents.”
