Harewood House has announced new details for its upcoming Christmas event, inspired by hit Netflix show Bridgerton.
Harewood is set to launch its 'Glittering Invitation: Harewood’s Grand Christmas Ball,' promising opulent decor and an “amped up” Regency aesthetic.
The stately home has teamed up with digital installations specialist Tom Le Bon and BOSUN Studio to create a series of projections that will bring Harewood’s imagined Grand Ball to life.
Visitors can expect scenes ranging from whispered gossip to spectacular fireworks, offering a glimpse into the fictional world of the evening’s guests.
TV interior designer Siobhan Murphy has led the creative design for the event, describing it as a “feast for the senses.”
Her vision includes an 18ft ombre Christmas tree in the Entrance Hall, crafted from 700 second-hand ballerina tutus, and more than 300 recycled pointe shoes from the English National Ballet’s sustainability initiative, The Drop-Off Pointe.
These will be transformed into rotating decorations in varying shades of pink.
Each room in the house will tell a different part of the story. The Music Room will feature an interactive soundscape of classical music with animated notes and trees decorated with gold instruments and feathers.
In the Gallery, guests will encounter life-like projections of ballgoers dressed in costumes from Leeds Playhouse and couture pieces by designer Julia Clancy.
In the Spanish Library, visitors will see the imagined host of the ball writing in her diary, with her reflections projected and read aloud in real time. A “book tree” made from over 200 second-hand books collected by Murphy will form the centrepiece.
The State Dining Room will showcase a Marie Antoinette-inspired feast scene, complete with rotating macaron trees and decorative cakes designed by Murphy and Great British Bake Off contestant Helena Garcia.
The experience concludes in the Servants’ Hall, where it will appear that the staff have been holding their own celebration. The space will feature vintage paper chains, trees made from copper pans and brass jugs, and a projected fireworks display over Almscliffe Cragg.
Zoë Hughes, Head of Public Programme at Harewood, said:
“We are thrilled to reveal that Tom Le Bon is on board to help create an unforgettable Christmas at Harewood.
"His light projections will compliment Siobhan’s maximalist approach to decor and design, helping to transport visitors into the world of a regency-inspired Christmas.
"Expect real ‘wow’ moments throughout the experience; with unexpected delights that promise to spark joy, bring smiles to faces of all ages, and create lasting festive memories to treasure.”
Throughout the house, over 10,000 handmade decorations have been created using second-hand and repurposed items, reflecting a focus on sustainability and creativity.
Harewood is also partnering again with fragrance brand DOME to create bespoke scents for the event, designed to enhance the multi-sensory, Regency-inspired experience.
Children will have their own interactive experience with a miniature trail of tiny Christmas scenes created by specialist artists, including Yorkshire-based Michael Robbins and 13-year-old Arabella Duffy. The trail encourages families to explore and spot the miniatures as they move through the house.
A Glittering Invitation: Harewood’s Grand Christmas Ball runs from Saturday 8 November 2025 to Sunday 4 January 2026. Tickets are available at harewood.org/christmas.
