Pupils and staff at Hampsthwaite Church of England Primary School have taken part in a Wear Red Day to raise money for the Children’s Heart Surgery Fund.
The event took place on 27th February, with students invited to wear red clothing and make donations to support the charity, which helps children and families affected by congenital and acquired heart conditions.
The cause has particular meaning for the school community.
One pupil at the school has a younger brother who was diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy last year and received specialist treatment at Leeds General Infirmary.
A staff member from the school said:
“This cause is especially close to our hearts.
“One of our own students has a younger brother who was diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy last year.
“The exceptional care provided by the consultants at Leeds General Infirmary, alongside the vital support of charities like the Children’s Heart Surgery Fund, has played a crucial role in his progress.”
According to the charity, around one in 100 children is affected by heart disease.
The school said it wanted to raise awareness of the issue while also supporting a local organisation making a difference.
Students across the school took part by wearing red and making donations.
A spokesperson for the school said the response from pupils and families had been very positive.
“Our students rose to the challenge with enthusiasm, colour and community spirit.
“This event has helped raise awareness of a charity that is making a real difference to families.”
So far, the school has raised £249, with additional donations still coming in.
