Firefighter Kevin Mann has been celebrated as a Your Harrogate local hero after being presented with his Emergency Services award.
Firefighter of 30 years presented with Your Harrogate Local Hero Award A firefighter of nearly 30 years has been presented with his Your Harrogate Local Hero Award by Lauren Doherty of Road Safety Talks. Kevin Mann was named a local hero at our awards ceremony at Rudding Park in November. He was chosen as the winner of the Emergency Services by sponsor Lauren Doherty, who founded Road Safety Talks. Unfortunately Lauren was unable to attend the ceremony due to illness, but she met up with Kevin at Rudding Park today (Friday) to present him with his trophy. She told Your Harrogate:
“There were so many deserving people on the list but we’ve worked with Kevin for a number of years and appreciate the work that he’s contributed to what we do and continue to do.”Kevin has been a firefighter with North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue service for close to 30 years. He is instrumental in delivering safety messages to schools and disadvantaged young people in the Harrogate and Ripon area. Speaking about receiving the award, Kevin Mann said:
“It’s very flattering and I’m very humbled. I said to one or two of my colleagues since that I’ve got a little bit of imposter syndrome because it’s part of the job. “It was amazing to even be nominated, let alone receive the award.”Rebecca Blunstone, Project Manager at Road Safety Talks, said:
“It’s always really hard to choose a winner in this category. "There’s a lot of time spent deliberating but there’s a link to the road safety work that we and Kevin do in the local area.”Kevin was one of ten winners at the Your Harrogate Local Hero Awards 2023, held on 3rd November 2023.
