Extreme heat to cause disruption on Harrogate train line

Northern trains are expecting disruption during the extreme heat.

Rail passengers in Harrogate are being warned to expect disruption as Northern introduces a reduced timetable due to extreme heat.

Services between Leeds and York via Harrogate will be reduced tomorrow (Thursday 13th August), with the amended timetable expected to be in place between approximately 10.45am and 3.45pm.

Northern is advising passengers to only travel if their journey is essential, with high temperatures expected to cause disruption across parts of its network.

A Northern spokesperson said:

"We’re going to be running a reduced timetable due to extreme heat. If you’re travelling, make sure you allow plenty of time and check before you travel.

“Thanks for bearing with us and make sure you bring plenty of water with you."

Extreme temperatures can cause railway tracks to buckle, while overhead lines can expand and sag.

Speed restrictions can also be introduced during particularly hot weather, leading to delays and cancellations.

Passengers with Northern tickets for affected routes on Thursday who are unable to travel can use them on Friday 14th or Saturday 15th August at no extra cost.
