Everyman Cinema in Harrogate will be hosting a dementia-friendly screening, organised by local care company Home Instead.
Dementia-friendly film screening to be held at Harrogate's Everyman Cinema A Harrogate care company has organised a free dementia-friendly film screening at the town's Everyman Cinema next week. Home Instead, who provide home support to people living in their own homes, have partnered with the cinema to screen the film 'The Fisherman's Friends' from 2pm on Tuesday 22nd August. The dementia-friendly screening will see the cinema lights left on low throughout the film and the volume lower than usual to create a softer, more relaxed feel. People are free to move around the cinema and everything is set up to be particularly suitable for those living with dementia, their family and their carers. Home Instead Care Professionals, who are trained dementia specialists, will also be in attendance to provide any additional support. Sheena Van Parys, Co-Owner of Home Instead in Harrogate, said:
"At Home Instead many of our clients are living with Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia, so we understand the challenges faced by family carers. "The dementia-friendly cinema screenings are a wonderful opportunity for people living with dementia, their friends and family to have time together in a safe environment, watching wonderful movies."The film is open to anyone over 60 to attend although priority is given to people living with dementia and their carers. Tea and coffee will be served from 1:45pm before the film starts at 2pm. Home Instead hosted the 2019 biographical drama 'Judy' at Everyman Cinema in February and the 1947 film 'Miracle on 34th Street' in the run up to Christmas last year.
