Council criticised over Knaresborough EE signal delays

Mobile signal problems in Knaresborough have reportedly affected residents and local businesses.

North Yorkshire Council has been criticised after failing to provide a target date for resolving ongoing EE signal problems in Knaresborough.

Residents and local businesses have reportedly faced poor mobile coverage for several months, with market traders struggling to process card payments.

Knaresborough councillor Matt Walker contacted the council for an update on efforts to resolve the issue.

In its response, North Yorkshire Council said:

“I haven’t set a target date as this is quite a complex issue to resolve and involves EE as well as ourselves, but we fully appreciate the impact on residents and business and will ensure that you get a fuller update very shortly.

“The team are currently working with EE to explore potential solutions to try and avoid any unnecessary tree reduction at such a sensitive location.”

Cllr Walker described the response as “not good enough” and questioned why the town had been left without a timeframe for improvements.

He said:

“Residents and businesses have been dealing with poor signal for months.

“Is pruning a tree really such a complex issue? And is it acceptable to leave the town in limbo with no target date for a resolution?”

Cllr Walker said he would continue pushing North Yorkshire Council and EE to introduce immediate temporary measures and provide a definitive completion date.

He added that he would share a further update when he received one.
