Communities and businesses in Harrogate are being invited to help shape ambitious new plans to boost investment and opportunities in the town.
Harrogate is one of 32 locations across North Yorkshire set to benefit from a £1.2 million programme designed to strengthen high streets, support local economies and make communities more sustainable.
The funding will help develop “Town Investment Plans” that identify local priorities and set out how future projects and funding could be targeted.
North Yorkshire Council says the plans will be developed in partnership with residents, businesses and community groups to ensure they reflect local needs and future ambitions.
Councillor Mark Crane, the Council’s executive member for open to business, said the programme is about working closely with communities to understand what matters most.
He said:
“Each area has its own character but they all share many of the same issues and challenges.
"We want to hear from as many people as possible to help shape the future of their towns.”
Consultation events are taking place across the county throughout November, with Harrogate’s dates due to be confirmed shortly.
Residents and business owners will be able to drop in, give feedback and put forward ideas to help guide Harrogate’s investment priorities.
The Mayor of York and North Yorkshire, David Skaith, says getting local voices involved is vital.
He said:
“Communities know what is best for their high street.
“It’s time for them to have a say on the future of their area.”
Further consultation sessions are planned in the coming months as the plans are developed ahead of the programme beginning in May 2025.
More information, including upcoming engagement events for Harrogate, will be available on North Yorkshire Council’s website.
