Knaresborough Striders attached a GoPro camera to their bed for the Great Knaresborough Bed Race - before disaster struck and they lost a wheel.
WATCH: Knaresborough Bed Race recorded from a runners point of view The Great Knaresborough Bed Race returned for a 56th time last weekend, with more than 90 teams racing through the streets of Knaresborough with their beds. The course takes in parkland, Waterside, through the Nidd Gorge, up the Castle Ings, through the cobbled streets, down Bond End to High Bridge, through McIntosh Park, and finishes with a 40-yard swim through the River Nidd. And once again, Knaresborough Striders have given viewers an insight into the race from a runners point of view after attaching a camera to their bed on the day. The group started the race in third position behind champions GH Brooks, who won the event last year, and Ripon Runners. But disaster struck fairly early on in the race when one of the bed’s wheels seized up and forced the team to stop. Watch the drama unfold via YouTube here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tgAiVXqJiyE The team were forced to ditch their bed and grab a spare from a nearby house before completing the race in 16 minutes and 12 seconds. However their time does not show in the official records as the spare bed did not have a timing chip. GH Brooks Men were the fastest male team again this year with a time of 13 minutes and 5 seconds. Ripon Runners Ladies were the fastest female team after completing the course in a time of 18 minutes and 50 seconds. See the full list of results here.
