Harrogate is set to be affected by strong winds and heavy rain as Storm Floris sweeps across the UK.
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for the area from 6am today (Monday 4th August) until 6am tomorrow (Tuesday).
The warning, which covers much of northern England, comes as forecasters predict “unseasonably strong winds” for the time of year.
Met Office Chief Meteorologist Matthew Lehnert said:
“Across the warning area, many inland areas are likely to see gusts of 40-50mph, with 60-70mph more likely at higher elevations and around exposed coasts in Scotland.
“There is a small chance that some locations here could even record gusts of 85mph.”
The Met Office has warned that delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are possible, and that some short-term loss of power and other services may occur.
There is also a risk of flying debris, particularly in exposed or elevated areas.
