St Aidan's school gain 'phenomenal' GCSE results

St. Aidan’s Church of England High School has released its GCSE results for 2025, reporting what it describes as one of its strongest years in recent times.

According to the school, 34% of all grades awarded were between 9 and 7, while nearly 90% of students achieved grade 4 or above in both English and maths.

The school highlighted this year’s cohort as the first nationally not to sit SATs tests in Year 6 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, meaning progress measures are not being used this year, with outcomes judged solely on attainment.

The school noted that attainment has improved across most subject areas compared with recent years, and said several students achieved a full set of grade 8 and 9 results, placing them among the highest achievers nationally.

Headteacher Siân Dover said:

“Our students have worked incredibly hard and shown remarkable dedication to their studies, and these outcomes are a testament to their resilience and the support of our staff and families.

"To see so many students achieving top grades and improving across the board is truly inspiring.”

Jane Goodwin, Chief Executive of the Yorkshire Causeway Schools Trust, added:

“Some of these students have been in our Trust since they started in reception at primary school.

"To see them flourish in this way, and to be with them today as they celebrate such achievements, is a real privilege.”

The school said it expects many students to continue into the Associated Sixth Form, run jointly with St John Fisher Catholic High School, as they move on to the next stage of their education.
