Police appeal after car crashes into central reservation on A1(M)

Police have launched an appeal following an incident on the A1(M).

Police are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage after a collision on the A1(M) over the weekend.

A man was seriously injured following a collision on the road near Dishforth on the night of Saturday 10th January.

It happened at around 10.45pm where the A168 joins the southbound carriageway of the A1 at junction 49.

It involved a black Skoda Octavia that was travelling southbound, joining the A1 on the A168 on-slip where it lost control as it joined the southbound carriageway.

It then crashed into the central reservation.

The two occupants of the Skoda ran off from the car, with one of them running across the north-bound carriageway where he was hit by a lorry travelling north.

He was taken to hospital with serious leg injuries where he currently remains.

The other occupant ran off into woodland but was found a short time later and arrested in connection with the incident.

The road was closed for five hours to allow emergency services to attend to the casualty, recover the vehicle and examine the scene.

The lorry driver was uninjured.

A police spokesperson said:

“We are appealing to any passing motorists who saw the black Skoda prior to the crash or saw the crash happen and anyone who saw the two men running off from the scene, across either carriageway, including anyone that has caught any of the incident on their dashcam.

“Please email Alyssa.Upton@northyorkshire.police.uk if you can help.

“Alternatively, you can call North Yorkshire Police on 101 and ask for TC Alyssa Upton.”
