Open road cycling race in Harrogate area this weekend

Harrogate Nova Cycling Club's Spring Road Race will be held this weekend.

An open road cycling race is set to be held in the Harrogate area this weekend.

Harrogate Nova Cycling Club has confirmed a new date for its Spring Road Race, which was cancelled earlier in the year.

The event will now take place on Saturday (16th August) using the Dacre circuit – a route regarded as one of the most challenging in the UK.

The Regional Open Road Race will see competitors complete seven laps of the 12.3 km circuit.

Competitions will arrive at the event headquarters at Darley Memorial Hall from 9am, with racing scheduled to begin at 10:30am.

The route begins with a lead-out to the B6451 before tackling Mill Hurst to Dacre Top.

Riders will then descend Dacre Lane through Padside to Thruscross, continue along Greenhow Hill Road to Menwith Hill Road, pass Forest Moor School, and return via the B6451 down Hardgroves Hill and Darley Carr to start the next lap.

Organisers say the course offers both challenging climbs and fast, flowing sections with views across the Nidderdale countryside.

It’s open to regional competitors and is expected to attract a strong field of riders from across Yorkshire and beyond.
