Knaresborough Town Council has launched recruitment for a new Town Development Manager - a key role that will lead the economic growth and commercial vitality of the historic market town.
The newly created post reflects the Council’s ambition to strengthen Knaresborough’s town centre, support local businesses, and further develop its thriving market and visitor economy.
Working 25 hours per week, the successful candidate will take on a strategic leadership role, driving initiatives that increase footfall, generate income, and ensure long-term sustainability.
The Town Development Manager will be responsible for town centre and market management, including the strategic and commercial development and rebranding of Knaresborough Market.
The role will also involve developing a Town Economic Strategy and Market Business Plan, managing town and market budgets, delivering events and partnerships, and securing external funding to support economic and community initiatives.
Town Councillor Helen Westmancoat, Mayor of Knaresborough, said:
“This is an exciting opportunity for someone with vision, commercial acumen, and a passion for place-making.
"Knaresborough is a vibrant and much-loved market town, and we are looking for a community minded Town Development Manager who can build on our strengths, support local businesses, and help shape a sustainable and prosperous future for the town.”
The Council is seeking a proactive and commercially minded individual with experience in town centre management, economic development, markets, regeneration, or a related field.
Strong financial skills, stakeholder engagement experience, and excellent communication abilities are essential. Experience in market management, events, tourism, grant funding, or sustainable economic development would be advantageous.
The role is offered on a one-year fixed-term contract, with the potential for extension, and includes membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme. The salary range is £40,000–£45,000 pro rata.
This role offers a unique opportunity to make a visible and lasting impact on one of North Yorkshire’s most distinctive towns.
