A Knaresborough dance school are officially the sixth best in the world after their outstanding performance at the Dance World Cup yesterday (Wednesday).
The team from Freedom Performing Arts, which is made up of girls aged 12-17, competed at the Congress Centre in Prague.
And with more than 65 countries and over 5,000 dancers taking part, Freedom finished sixth overall.
Freedom Performing Arts Principal Amy Meikle told Your Harrogate:
“We honestly can’t believe it, we are bowled over.
“There were 24 incredible schools competing in our section and we never expected this result at all.
“We came here just wanting to do our best and give it our all but to be placed in the top six and be asked to stand up on stage in front of the entire world, we’ve definitely put Knaresborough on the map and we are so grateful.
“Thank you to everyone back home.”
Freedom Performing Arts qualified for the competition last November after their Large Group Commercial routine ranked third in the UK.
22 dancers from Freedom took part in the Dance World Cup, which was live-streamed to thousands.
One dancer said:
“Considering this our first time ever at the Dance World Cup, to finish sixth is incredible.
“There’s just so much talent and we’re so grateful to everyone back home who sponsored and supported us.”
Team England is sponsored by Emergy Fitness & Wellbeing.
