The Choir of Knaresborough's historic Parish Church of St John the Baptist are making the final preparations for their summer tour to London next weekend.
The choir will be singing services in Westminster Abbey on Saturday 3rd August and St George’s Chapel, at Windsor Castle, on Sunday 4th August.
In the past 12 months, the choir has also sung in Salisbury Cathedral, Durham Cathedral and York Minster, as well as singing the regular services at St John’s and occasional services and concerts at other churches in the area.
One of the pieces of music which will be sung at Evensong at both venues is ‘The Knaresborough Service’, a setting of the Evening Canticles by local composer Philip Wilby.
St John’s Director of Music, Mark Hunter, said:
“Over the past 35 years the choir have been fortunate enough to sing in the vast majority of Cathedrals in England and Wales, as well as many prestigious venues overseas.
“I am delighted that we will be adding Westminster Abbey and St George’s Chapel to the list this year and particularly pleased that we will be performing The Knaresborough Service in two such historic and iconic buildings.
“We have a long and proud musical tradition at St John’s and I am very fortunate to direct so many talented, dedicated and hard-working singers”.
