The owner of Number Thirteen on Silver Street in Knaresborough has revealed the cafe will be closing in the near future.

Number Thirteen on Silver Street in Knaresborough will be closing next month.
Sarah Ward, the cafe's owner, has taken to social media to reveal it will cease trading in an emotional message, calling it the 'toughest decision she's ever made.' Number Thirteen on Silver Street opened just under six months ago and is the second of its name in Knaresborough. Number Thirteen on Castlegate, which first opened in January 2018, will continue to operate as normal. Speaking about her decision, Sarah said:"It was a beautiful experiment, but unfortunately it wasn’t meant to be. "There is no denying that the hospitality industry has been suffering these past few years, and I can’t pretend that we haven’t been affected. "With costs in energy prices still increasing, costs of ingredients and stock increasing, as well as large staff costs and overheads like rent and VAT, it just isn’t financially viable to remain open."[caption id="attachment_75636" align="aligncenter" width="1024"] Number Thirteen on Silver Street will cease trading at the end of next month.[/caption] Number Thirteen on Silver Street, which is located above Donkey’s Years Antiques, is an eco-conscious coffee shop with unique retro styling. Sarah said:
"I am doing this now, to preserve the future of the original shop on Castlegate. If I stick it out even a few more months with our Silver Street shop, there is a risk that it would take Castlegate down with it. "I need our Castlegate shop to survive, and the only way I see this happening is if I take Silver Street out of the equation. "I have to think about what’s best for the future of the business and what’s best for my family’s future too. "I always said that I would only stop having my own business when I didn’t enjoy it anymore, and I’m starting to not enjoy it. I need to get the joy back, to feel enthusiasm for my business rather than perpetual worry and anxiety."She added:
"I know many of you will be disappointed, but believe me, no one is more disappointed than I am. But I have tried my best and I don’t regret trying."The cafe will remain open for reduced hours throughout September before ceasing trading on Saturday 30th September.
