James Belshaw 'honoured' to play for Town as stopper bids emotional goodbye

James Belshaw is leaving Town to join Notts County.

Harrogate Town goalkeeper James Belshaw has thanked the club's fans and called it an 'honour' to wear yellow and black after announcing his departure.

The stopper is joining fellow League Two side Notts County for an undisclosed fee, having made nearly 300 appearances for the club.

Belshaw is undoubtedly one of Harrogate Town's most successful players, having helped the club achieve two promotions and an FA Trophy during his two spells.

And on his departure, Belshaw, affectionately known as ‘Belly’, has bid an emotional goodbye to the club’s supporters.

He said:

“When we started this journey back in 2017, never did I think we’d have gone on to achieve what we did.

“We created history at this football club and I am extremely proud to have been a part of that.”

He added:

“To the fans, it’s been an honour to represent your football club. Thank you for your unwavering and constant support throughout my time here.

“I wish you, and the boys, the best of luck for the future. I’ll see you again.”

His departure follows news that Town have signed Ipswich Town goalkeeper Henry Gray on loan until the end of the season.

Harrogate Town manager Simon Weaver said:

“Belly has done a lot for the club in the promotion seasons and also when he came back two years ago.

“There's no animosity and we completely respect his decision to leave.

“We’re very thankful for his efforts here and obviously wish him well at Notts County, which is the club he supported as a boy.”
