Harrogate Library is marking a major milestone this month as it celebrates its 120th anniversary.
The public library on Victoria Avenue first opened its doors on 24th January 1906, following funding from Scottish-American philanthropist Andrew Carnegie and a foundation stone laid in 1904.
Since then, it has grown into a focal point for learning, community activities and public events in Harrogate.
Over the past year, the library has commemorated the anniversary with a series of events and activities, including talks on its history and special programmes that reflect its longstanding role in the town.
A spokesperson for Harrogate Library said:
"As we approach our 120th birthday, it has been lovely to hear feedback from our customers.
"We are able to offer such a variety of services and activities to our customers thanks to the creativity and commitment of our staff and volunteers, along with positive partnerships with numerous community organisations and individuals.
"It really is amazing what can be achieved when people offer such support and enthusiasm for our service."
As part of the anniversary year, special events have been scheduled to engage different age groups and celebrate the library’s contributions to literacy, learning and community cohesion over more than a century.
Harrogate Library is open from 9am until 7pm from Monday to Thursday, 9am-5pm on Friday, 9am-4pm on Saturday and is closed on Sunday.
