A report released by Carefound Home Care has shown improved quality of life and fewer hospital admissions for older people receiving care at home.
Carefound Home Care in Harrogate, which supports older people to continue living in their own homes, has published an annual review of its service.
According to the review, the home care provider achieved a 10% reduction in hospital admissions when compared to the previous year, meaning that their clients were 22% less likely to be admitted to hospital than people living in a care home.
Furthermore, only 7% of clients experienced a readmission to hospital within 28 days.
Falls in older people were also shown to have been reduced by 27%, following the introduction of a falls prevention strategy designed with the NHS in 2021.
Carefound attributed these results to its highly personalised, locally managed approach, which includes carers carrying out ‘soft sign’ checks at every care visit to ensure any signs of deterioration are identified and action is taken to prevent serious illness.
Oliver Stirk, Managing Director of Carefound Home Care, said:
“We’re very proud to share the results of our annual review which demonstrate how home care can improve people’s quality of life and reduce the likelihood of people being admitted to hospital.”
“It’s also great to see such positive feedback from our clients and carers, which is thanks to the incredible work of everybody across our local teams.”
“The NHS is facing unprecedented challenges and there are increasing numbers of older people being left without support. We need to move care away from hospitals and other institutional settings, and put a much greater emphasis on prevention and enabling people to live more independent lives at home.”
“I hope that sharing our findings helps highlight how a highly personalised, locally managed home care service, backed by leading technology, can make a difference.”
The review also analysed feedback from clients and their families, with 100% saying home care had improved their quality of life. 95% of clients said their carer was well matched to their needs, 98% said their carer spent enough time on their care, and 99% would recommend Carefound Home Care.
Staff feedback showed that 97% of carers were proud to work for Carefound Home Care and 95% understood why they’re different from other care companies.
