Harrogate Cricket Club has reached its fundraising target to refurbish its community cricket nets.
The St George’s Road ground received a £2,000 contribution from regional developer, The Banks Group.
The free-to-use practice nets, which are available year-round to both club members and local residents, will undergo improvement work in the coming weeks.
Planned refurbishments include upgrading the all-weather playing surface and repairing the netting on two net lanes.
The club launched its fundraising campaign to ensure the community nets remained in good condition, following earlier improvements to the members’ practice facilities.
Harrogate Cricket Club, which competes at senior men’s and women’s levels as well as running junior teams from under-sevens upwards, has also recently expanded opportunities with a walking cricket group for over-55s and is developing playing opportunities for a local visually impaired group.
The Banks Group donation, which helped the club meet its target, came through its community fund programme.
The scheme supports local initiatives in areas close to the company’s operations, with applications managed independently by Point North.
Improvement work on the nets is expected to be completed before the end of the current season.
