The owners of Goldsborough Hall will mark a major milestone this week as they celebrate the 20th anniversary of its restoration.
This Friday (10th October) will mark 20 years since Mark and Clare Oglesby purchased the once-derelict Jacobean stately home and began its extraordinary refurbishment journey.
When the couple first stepped through its doors in 2005, they were faced with collapsed ceilings, broken windows, rain running down the walls and even rats and squirrels in the attic.
The gardens were little more than lawns and weeds, the Hall a shadow of its former grandeur.
Two decades later, the picture could not be more different.
Goldsborough Hall is now an award-winning, five-star country house with 3 AA Rosette fine dining and one of Yorkshire’s most beautiful gardens.
It has become a destination for luxury getaways, weddings, and events - welcoming guests from across the region and beyond.
Mark Oglesby, owner of Goldsborough Hall, said:
“When Clare and I first saw Goldsborough Hall, many people thought we were mad to take it on.
“It was cold, dark and in a terrible state of repair but we saw its potential.
“Twenty years on, it’s wonderful to see the Hall thriving again as a place filled with life, laughter and celebration.
“We’re incredibly proud of what’s been achieved and grateful to everyone who has supported us along the way.”
Every bedroom has been transformed into five-star luxury accommodation, the dining experience has won acclaim and the gardens have been restored and developed into award-winning grounds, including the historic Lime Tree Walk originally planted for Princess Mary.
