Volunteer charity celebrates 60 years of supporting Harrogate Hospital

Tewit Silver Band is performing at Harrogate Theatre next month.

A volunteer-run charity that supports Harrogate Hospital is marking its 60th anniversary this year.

Friends of Harrogate Hospital was established in 1966 and has continued to operate without paid staff or overheads.

Over six decades, the charity says it has raised around £2.4 million, funding thousands of items of equipment and facilities intended to improve patient care and support local outreach services linked to the hospital.

To mark the anniversary, the charity is holding a fundraising concert on Friday 13th February at Harrogate Theatre.

The event will begin at 7.30pm and has been organised by Tewit Silver Band, Harrogate’s only championship section brass band.

Founded in 2017, Tewit Silver Band was created to provide progression opportunities for musicians from the Tewit Youth Band.

The band has moved from the Fourth Section to the Championship Section in six years and is made up largely of locally trained players.

The programme will include a mix of popular, classical and traditional brass band music.

The concert also marks the recent donation of a full set of Besson instruments to the band, with a reported value of £145,000.

Besson, which was founded in 1837, is sponsoring the evening’s guest soloist, cornet player Roger Webster.

Tickets for the concert are priced at £18, with a reduced rate of £15 for under-18s. They are available from the Harrogate Theatre box office, by phone on 01423 502116, or via the theatre’s website.
