Protesters braved heavy rain and wind to call for the closure of RAF Menwith Hill near Harrogate on Saturday (24th October).
The demonstration was organised by the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND), Yorkshire CND and the Menwith Hill Accountability Campaign.
Campaigners marched around the perimeter of the intelligence base to its main gates, where they struck inflatable golf balls representing the site’s distinctive white radomes.
The day’s programme also included a public meeting at Friends Meeting House in Harrogate, with transport arranged to take participants to the base afterwards.
A spokesperson for CND said:
“Protestors battled the elements today to demonstrate at RAF Menwith Hill and call for the government to Kick Out Trump’s Spybase!
“We struck golfballs that look like the base’s giant radars - known as radomes - which are likely to have given intelligence to assist US and Israeli war crimes.”
The allegation about the use of intelligence gathered at Menwith Hill is made by CND and has not been independently verified.
The protest formed part of CND’s wider campaign to close US bases in the UK, with organisers calling for greater scrutiny of Menwith Hill’s activities.
