A Harrogate dance group has helped smash a Guinness World Record after performing alongside chart-topping DJ Sigala.
Members of E.K Galaxy Cheer & Dance joined around 1,200 performers at Bartercard Odsal Stadium on Friday (20th March) in a bid to break the Guinness World Record for the most backing dancers performing with a live artist. The previous record stood at 993.
The attempt took place ahead of Bradford Bulls vs Huddersfield Giants match and was broadcast on Sky Sports+ before kick-off.
E.K Galaxy Cheer & Dance, which runs classes in North Rigton and at Harrogate Ladies College, offers both competitive and recreational opportunities for dancers aged four and above.
And the group are now Guinness World Record holders, as part of the ensemble of around 1,200.
Director Eleanor Hetherington said:
"It was so incredibly special! History was made!
"Congratulations to our dancers - a long day full of tech rehearsals and choreography runs. They were super professional and put on a spectacular show!"
The group had spent weeks preparing for the large-scale performance, which brought together dancers from across the country for the record-breaking routine.
E.K Galaxy Cheer & Dance caters for a wide range of abilities, from those aiming to compete at a high level to those taking part for enjoyment, with a focus on teamwork, fitness and confidence-building.
The event marked a milestone moment for the Harrogate-based group, with participants describing it as a memorable experience performing on a major stage alongside a live artist.
