Six members of North Yorkshire Police took part in a 180-mile cycle ride over the weekend to honour police officers, staff and colleagues who have died in the line of duty.
The Police Unity Tour, now in its 13th year, brings together cyclists from forces across the country to ride in memory of a fallen colleague.
The event culminated at the UK Police Memorial at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire, coinciding with the Care of Police Survivors (COPS) Annual National Service of Remembrance.
Riding as part of the Northeast Chapter, the North Yorkshire Police team began their journey at Fulford Police Station in York on Friday (1st August), covering 87.2 miles to Worksop.
On Saturday, they cycled a further 81.2 miles to Tamworth.
The final day involved an 11-mile ceremonial ride into the Arboretum, where all 530 riders laid a rose at their force’s memorial tree in “The Beat.”
Each participant wore a wristband engraved with the name of a fallen officer.
Representing North Yorkshire Police were:
- Deputy Chief Constable Scott Bissett, riding for PC Glenn Robinson.
- Assistant Chief Officer Lisa Stitt, riding for PC Rosie Prior.
- PC Joshua Snaith, riding for PC David Haigh.
- Police Staff Investigator Doug Stanway, riding for PC Nina Mackay.
- Digital Forensics Technical Manager Lee Chapman, riding for PC Richard Ellerker.
- Fleet Manager David Higo, riding for PC Andrew Bramma.
They were supported by DC Marie Williams, who rode in memory of PC Ingram, and Chief Inspector Dave Anderson, who wore a wristband for Sgt David Winter.
Additional wristbands honouring three other fallen North Yorkshire officers were worn by riders from other forces.
The event raises money for COPS, a charity supporting families of police personnel who have died in the line of duty.
A police spokesperson said:
“This was far more than a physical challenge; it was a tribute to those who gave everything in the line of duty.
“Our team proudly took on this incredible ride to honour those who made the ultimate sacrifice and it’s not too late to support if you would like to.”
All training and participation took place during officers’ personal rest days.
