Work has begun on the £2.1m refurbishment of Jesmond House in Harrogate.
Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust (TEWV) is transforming the former office block on Victoria Avenue into a pioneering community hub.
The building is to be renamed ‘Hummingbird House.’
Meldrum Construction Services Group is the appointed contractor for the work, which will include the renewal of building services, sanitary and kitchenware, fixtures and fittings, partitions and decorative finishes.
Minor external works will also be incorporated.

Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust’s community teams are currently split across three sites – Windsor House, Dragon Parade and Jennyfield Health Centre.
They will all be based at the new hub.
Director of Estates, Facilities and Capital, Simon Adamson, said:
“We picked the building on Victoria Avenue as the site of our new hub as it will offer a much-improved environment and experience for patients, carers and staff.”
The refurbishment of Hummingbird House is set to bring significant improvements to the healthcare infrastructure in North Yorkshire, reinforcing the Trust’s commitment to providing high-quality care.
Steve Laughton, Contracts Manager at Meldrum said:
“We are proud to be part of this transformative project.
“Our team is dedicated to delivering a facility that meets the highest standards of quality and functionality, creating a welcoming and supportive environment for all users.
“We understand the importance of this hub to the community and place high importance on mental health as a business.”
The upgraded facility will support a holistic approach to mental health services, offering modern, efficient, and accessible spaces designed to foster healing and well-being.
Steve added:
“This project aligns with our expertise in handling complex refurbishments that require careful coordination and detail.
“We are collaborating closely with the Trust to ensure that every aspect of the facility is tailored to the needs of its patients and staff, enhancing the overall healthcare experience.”
The redevelopment will be funded by the Capital Programme, with support from the local integrated care board.
It is hoped that the new hub will open in Autumn.
