A proposed expansion of Harrogate Spring Water’s bottling facility could contribute £17 million annually to the northern economy, according to figures released by the firm.
The plans, which are subject to the planning process, would increase production capacity at the company's site on Harlow Moor Road.
The company says this would lead to higher demand across its existing supply chain, much of which is regionally based.
Around half of Harrogate Spring Water’s core product and packaging suppliers are located within 50 miles of its site.
These include manufacturers, logistics providers and service firms across Yorkshire and the wider North. The company states that, if approved, the expansion could result in increased spending with many of these businesses.
Suppliers based in Leeds, less than 20 miles from the site, could see annual spend rise by 89% to just over £16 million.
Combined spending across other packaging-related suppliers - including cardboard packaging from Halifax, pallets from Pontefract and bottle caps from Hull - is projected to increase from around £3.5 million to £6.9 million.
The company also projects increased demand for operational services linked to the site. Recruitment providers could see spending rise threefold, while expenditure on locally sourced cleaning services is expected to double.

Additional demand is also anticipated across areas such as office supplies, design and artwork, site maintenance and training, with many of these services provided by businesses based in Harrogate.
